Calochortus elegans/lyallii[edit]
Hi, your photo File:Calochortus_elegans_5720.JPG is used for a number of pages, including the species page for Calochortus elegans. This is actually Calochortus lyallii which looks somewhat similar to C. elegans but can be distinguished by its narrower petals and different coloration. I've posted this here and on the talk page of the photo itself, since I'm not sure what's the standard. Nice photo! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tatarerike (talk • contribs) 22:42, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I agree.[1] Thank you for commenting.
- I think it is good to post on the talk page on the file itself. That makes it easier to understand the file history. But the contributor may not see your post unless you post to his or her talk page. BTW, you can sign and date-stamp your post by typing four tildes after your message (~~~~). I made a minor edit to your post above to make the wikilink work. Walter Siegmund (talk) 13:59, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Using two of your photos in an University Extension publication?[edit]
Hi Walter
I am a PhD student at Oregon State University and I'm currently working on an extension publication on blooming shrubs and trees of Oregon that are useful to native bees. I was wondering if I would be able to use a few of your images in the extension publication? The images I'm looking at appear to be licensed under a Creative Commons license, but I wanted to get permission from you! I would of course include you as the owner of the image and a link to the images on Wikimedia. I would not be able to pay you for the images and will not profit from the publication or from the inclusion of your images in the publication. The publication would would be open to the public and free for people to use.
The two images that I am interested in using are: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ledum_glandulosum_7486.JPG and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Holodiscus_discolor_3007.JPG
If you are okay with me using your images, would you be able to send me an email at scott.mitchell *ampersand* oregonstate.edu?
If you don't want your images used this way, I understand!
Best, Scott 128.193.154.176 21:41, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

Amsinckia lycopsoides[edit]
Your photos of Amsinckia lycopsoides from Elinor's Canyon, Wenas Wildlife Area, do not appear to be that species: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amsinckia_lycopsoides_9649.JPG
Amsinckia lycopsoides has the corolla throat obstructed by hairy fornices. Yours does not have this. Based on the shorter and softer hairs on the stem along with the hispid hairs, and the ascending leaves, I think that this is Amsinckia retrorsa.
Here are a couple of examples of what Amsinckia lycopsoides should look like: https://burkeherbarium.org/imagecollection/photo.php?Photo=wtu002043&Taxon=Amsinckia%20lycopsoides&SourcePage=taxon https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/12224263 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/111609531 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/73083081
